You may know The Matrix inside out, but you’ve never seen it quite like this. For one night only on Sunday 23 October, the Wachowskis’ genre-busting cyber-hit is coming to London's Royal Albert Hall with a live orchestra in tow.

At The Matrix Live, Berlin’s NDR Pops Orchestra will play Don Davis’s score in front of a screening of the movie, showing off a composition that may not be as hummable as Star Wars, but deserves to be recognised as one of the most interesting pieces of film music of recent years. “It’s not music like John Williams or Max Steiner, but it has its own quality,” says conductor Frank Strobel. “The film was a new step in cinema, and the music represents the new step as well. When you listen carefully to the music you understand that it’s not what is usually done in films. It’s a special score and it’s representative of the ideas in the film, and I think that helps make the film stronger.”
